Thanks to Sugar Mama’s Bake Shop in Austin for letting me host a pet portrait pop-up shop! I had fun creating some art from their beautiful and delicious sugary treats. I got to showcase a recent cat portrait of Ms. Rosa Parks.
I offer traditional pet portrait paintings as well as PAWINGS. What’s a “PAWING”? It’s what I call art work that is half painting and half drawing. It is a thoughtfully but quickly executed work that begins as a sketch lightly drawn in pencil on watercolor paper. I then draw over it with a brush or twig dipped in ink. I then follow up with some spot color, depending on the dog’s coloring and personality, and I may or may not add a background color.
I had a fantastic time last weekend at a hand-drawn animation workshop taught by Austin artist Ami Plasse. What is hand-drawn animation? This is what it looks like: here’s a GIF I created during the work shop. For lovers of “Office Space,” which is my favorite movie, the Initech logo will look familiar.
Where has this article been all my life? I recently read this essay in Harper’s by the author of a book called “Bullsh*t Jobs” that explains why pointless jobs make people miserable and depressed. It also explains why I love printmaking so much. A human being unable to have a meaningful impact on the world ceases to exist.
I had so much doing this illustration for the Global Talent Search 2018 for Lilla Rogers Studio! The assignment was to do a gardener's journal covering using Japanese anemone flowers, a staghorn fern, and some lettering.
Like when two people are in an argument and the one who is losing says: "Well I don't care what you say. You'rea Towel!" This meme that began with South Park character Towelie sums up our current political discourse.
